Tarot Tuesday

Someone asked me what are the 3 biggest mistakes that Tarot learners make? Here are my thoughts on this, hopefully this may be of help to someone and help to grow confidence when working with Tarot.

Mistake No.1 – only memorising the standard meanings, straight from a book. This makes for a stiff reading and blocks your intuition. Tarot is a language, not a set of rules.

A better way is to learn the patterns, what the suits signify, Use books as a reference but let the artwork and your own feelings guide you too. This way you will build your own keywords as you go.

Mistake No. 2 – Only asking yes or no questions. Will I be rich, or will this person love me, or what will definitely happen – this limits the the tarot can do. Tarot shows energies, possibilities, insights and guidance – it doesn’t fix the future. (My favourite saying is that nothing is fixed or fated because we all have free will.)

A better way is to ask open, empowering questions. ‘What do I need to understand about this situation. or ‘what do I need to focus on right now’

Mistake No. 3 – Fearing ‘bad’ or darker cards. Panicking over the Death or the Tower card and thinking they mean doom & disaster! Each card has light and dark, nothing is purely good or bad.

A better way is to reframe them. Death = transformation, fresh starts and letting go. The Tower is all about breaking free and the need for change. The Devil – being aware of habits or bonds that need to be released.

Remember that Tarot is your tool for insight, reflection and growth – you are the one who brings the wisdom of the cards to life.
